When I first thought I’d try stand-up comedy, I bought a copy of one of Gene Perret’s books on comedy writing. It helped me see the ‘science’ of comedy and supported my basic ideas so I knew I wasn’t nuts. I’ve been a stand up comic for 22 years now, earning a living and enjoying making people laugh. I’d probably have done it without Mr. Perret’s help, eventually, but he gave me a great start point. Thanks a million, Gene Perret! You’re a legend.
Excellent job, Matt! I can confirm Gene’s textbooks on comedy writing really DO work. I let him know via Facebook and was delighted when Linda sent a gracious personal reply on Gene’s behalf. What nice people (as you well know)!
